Muktar Tolani
Shagaya

Muktar Tolani Shagaya was born on December 16, 1989, into the prominent Shagaya Family, known for their strong values in both Islamic and Western education, as well as their commitment to community development. His educational journey began with a first school leaving certificate from Lebanese Community School, Yaba, Lagos, in 1999. Following a brief period at Adesoye College in Offa, Kwara State, he continued his studies at Rockwell College in Ireland from 2001 to 2002. He then pursued his A-level/AS & GCSE education at Malvern College, Worcestershire, United Kingdom, from 2003 to 2008. Muktar holds a B.Sc in International Relations from the University of Plymouth and a Master of Arts degree in International Development and Development Management from the University of Manchester, UK.

With nearly a decade of experience in various sectors such as energy, manufacturing, finance, and diplomacy, Muktar is a seasoned International Development Expert and Energy Executive. His accomplishments include successfully leading projects funded by international donors like the World Bank, focusing on rural communities across Nigeria. His professional journey commenced in 2013 as a Junior Assistant at The Infrastructure Bank PLC, where he steadily advanced his career, assuming roles like Business Development Manager at Karmod Nigeria Prefabricated Technologies and Energy Executive at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). At REA, he spearheaded community engagement and training initiatives for projects such as the World Bank-sponsored FADAMA project and the Nigeria Electrification Agency.

He also served as the Business Development and Strategy Lead at Asolar Systems, Nigeria Limited, a company specializing in affordable solar home systems with flexible installment payment options. Notably, Muktar Tolani Shagaya emerged victorious in the general election held on February 25, 2023, securing his position as the House of Representatives member representing Ilorin West/Asa. This victory signifies his commitment to community-based representation and his dedication to making a positive impact in his region.

Since his victory, Muktar Tolani Shagaya has not only secured his position but has also actively contributed to legislative activities by sponsoring bills and motions that closely align with his agenda of advancing the well-being of his constituents and Nigerians.

Notably, he currently holds the role of Deputy Chairman in the House Committee on Basic Education & Services, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping basic education policies and reforms. He is also a member of the House Committee on Defence, Emergency and Disaster Management, Environment, ICT, Electoral Matters, Ecological Funds, Petroleum Upstream, NASENI and Others
